JCPL Policies

Library Card

Residents of Johnson County and surrounding counties are eligible for a free library card. Anyone 16 and older must present current identification. Please allow two to four business days to receive your card in the mail.
Anyone under 14 must have their parent's or guardian's signature to receive a library card.
There is a $2.00 fee for adults and $1.00 for students to replace lost library cards.

Game and Video Policy

You must be 18 years or older and have a JCPL library card to check out movies or games.
There is a limit of two videos and one game each rental.

Loan Period

Books, audio recordings, and Playaways may be checked out for two weeks and may be renewed up to 3 times for a total of 8 weeks as long as there are no reservations on them.
Videos and games are loaned for six days. There are NO renewals on videos.
Books, audio recordings, and Playaways may be renewed in person or by phone.
Reserves may be placed on a book that is checked out at the time. Reserves may be requested by phone, in person, or online. When the item is returned, we will call you and the requested book will be held at the circulation desk. Books must be picked up 6 days or they will be returned to the shelf.

Late Fees

There are NO late fees for overdue books.
Videos and games are $2.00 per video and per game, per day.
Lost or damaged books will be charged for the replacement cost of a new one.

Internet Policy

You must have a library card at JCPL.
You must sign our Internet policy agreement.
18 years or younger must have a parent or guardian signature.
Children under 10 may not use the computers unless supervised by parent/guarding or adult child care provider.
You are allowed two 30 minute sessions for a total of one hour of Internet access per day (excluding patrons doing school work.)
